Subaru Maintenance Day. Watching The World Today is Why I Need to Write My Book. There Be No Silence Indeed.
September 18th 2024. Wednesday. I drink my warm coffee through a straw as I sit in the modern waiting room of the Subaru service center. The white man to the far right of me, just wants to talk to someone. Anyone.
When I walked in with my fiction book in hand, desperate to read a book on some real paper and dive deeper into my new found desire to learn more about Olympian Mythology, this man just started his day off wanting to talk to me. “All I need today is an oil change, my treds rotated and a fucking cup of coffee freely offered by the service center dude, I do not want to engage.” That is the thought that immediately popped into my head. I did not need some old white man in dark glasses wanting to “chit chat” about how tired his low back was and how he didn’t know how to work the highly complicated coffee machine so he left his coffee in the car.
However, as ready as I was for nothing but social silence, I chuckled and laughed about how I loved the coffee they offered here at Subaru and if I was going to hang out for the morning I was going to caffeine up.
